Close to Becoming a Reality

This is very close to what we are looking at building. The kids have asked for some minor changes to be made to it which we are working on at this time. We are receiving final quotes from companies and are getting both very prepared and excited for the next city meeting. Kind of neat to think something like this is going to be in little 'ole Ark City Kansas.

Tonkawa Skate Park Grand Opening

This weekend we traveled to Tonkawa for their Grand Opening. It was about a hour drive but it was worth it to see a cool new park. The park was built by Skate Wave ehich is one of the ramp builders we have been taking bids from for our skate park. The opening had a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by a free skate with Chad Knight (a pro skater for 103). Local men were selling sodas hot dogs an burgers throughout the day and Skate Wave gave out 4 skateboards (1 new and 3 used) plus tons of stickers, t-shirts and beenies. The day was pretty crowded but after Chad did his autograph signing people seemed to clear out. Myself, Nici Nelson and Frank Warseck all caravaned to the event taking 12 kids with us. I am proud to say that we took a lot of the tallent to this park. Our kids even got S-K-A on the pro in a game of S-K-A-T-E (very similiar to horse). People were very impressed by the skills of Wheels United and they were even more so when they learned these kids don't even have a skate park.
Evan recieves pointers from Chad as he signs his board.

Cody gets big air over the picnic table.

Chad Knight impresses the kids with an invert hand plant.

Rebekah sports the new dew as she jumps the table.

Jose with a nice kick flip from a box.

Trevor nails the rail.

Lucas slashes up the quarter pipe.

The kids all wait there turn with Chad as Rebekah drops in.

Preston nails the landing after soaring over the table.

Mick chills with Chad. (Wasn't too sure about the arm on his shoulder though.)

Chase getting air to grind the bench.

T A tried this rail until he got it.

Corbin slashing the rail. This was his first time to go with us.

Frankie cruises along.

Wheels United Logo Ideas

These are a few ideas for a club logo for Wheels United. Be sure to leave any feed back or suggestions for changes. This isn't my team it's the cities so all feedback is always greatly appreciated. Lets call the first the green one.

We will call this one the full U.
And that means this one can be the partial U. Let me know what you think and a huge thanks to Stephanie Norton for the hard work on these symbols. We have also been looking into developing our own line of skate gear to sell so any name ideas on that would be accepted also.

Weekend Skate Tour Part 4

Evan getting some air off the ramp.
Rebekah learns new tricks on the pipe every week.

Jose has a clean grind across the top of the ramp.
Lucas used to hate vert now it's about all he will skate.
Chase gets both trucks on the coping.

Trevor sticking a hard stall.
TA learned how to ride out the half pipe this week.

Preston hitting a stall in praying mantis form.

Mick tried the shove it about a thousand times. That kid goes after some of the hardest tricks.

Good weekend in Winfield. It was very windy and very cold but we still managed to skate for a while. Everyone seems to be learning new tricks weekly now which is fun to watch them all develop. This week I saw a lot of coaching out of the better skaters showing the lesser experienced ones how to do things right. Some Winfield kids even showed up and played with them for a while. Even though it was cold it was still a good skate.

Non-Skate Activities

The clan with the lead guitarist of All Kills Aside
All the guys got their picture taken with her but he was brave enough to ask.

Pretty accurate with the .22

She likes the 9mm.

Rabbit hunting?
So sometimes we unwind in ways that don't involve skateboarding. In the last couple weeks I have taken the kids that help a lot in fund raising to a few events. Previous posts show our sledding excursion. This one shows a fun (and trust me very safe) day of target shooting. Lucas Rebekah and Mick all took turns firing at everything including the kitchen sink (literally). Yesterday Myself and a larger group went to Park City for the Music as a Weapon Tour. It was loud and heavy with such bands as Suicide Silence, Bury Your Dead, Crooked X, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil, Chimera and Disturbed. The youngest of the group found his way into a mosh pit with an awesome Wichita Straight Edge dance group, while some of the older kids (names withheld in fear of parental repercussions) crowd surfed to Killswitch. A fun time was had by all. Thank you to Disturbed for the tickets you sent us even if the skateboarders were unable to preform. It was a great change of pace.
